Ok, new version! :D Gamma V2.0.

Check it out ;)

(new: digg it http://digg.com/software/Open_Laszlo_Web_Application_-_Sketching_online )

This is a website done in Ruby on Rails and as lots of Laszlo applications.
It takes laszlo to a new level of interactivity.

This was developed by inEvo (www.inevo.pt), a R&D company in Portugal.
For a while now we develop new and innovating apps in Laszlo and find this framework of high value.
We have done this site to test and improve our skill in some technologies like Rails, Laszlo, xml parsing, SVG, sketch figure recognition (not yet at work), osga (OSGA.NET) and CALI.

Site description:

This is a new enterly free site for users and guest to come a draw humor sketches and comic strips.
You can draw online and immideatly everyone else an the world with a net connection can see it.

It's good for artists that want to show their talent and work and don't know much about creating a website or putting their drawing online.
And as it's all centralized, you can go there and see other people work and know what's beeing done recently.

On the other hand, it also great to average people that love carttons and humorist sketchs to go and see always new cartoons.

It would be great if there is any chance for everyone of you to tell about it to your friends and thru your site (link section or any other section you wich).
Please, feel all free and challenged to go there, register and create comics as you will.

Our site is far from finish, but it's already has many features.

Once again, here is the site URl:

Enjoy! :)

This project caused flash plugin to abort because it was running too slow. I tested it in Firefox 1.0.7

yeah i agree, flash is loading too slowly....i think you still have html design for flash....

EDIT: this is a nice

however, it keep streaming audio unbeknownst to the viewer....keep in mind bandwidth usage when designing your apps please :D

interactive doesnt mean expensive lol

your right. It is slow and can possibly ask the user if he wants to stop the script.. just say no and it will run nicely.

The problem is that it is downloading all strokes performed by the user .. in the comics.. therefor, it's is a great deal of information and after it will still render those strokes.

If it's a bigger and complex comics, it will get slow.

I'm thinking on creating images with the drawing. As they are quite small (150 px of height) it will download and present much quicker and nicer.. it's like a cache ;)

This project was done by only on guy at partial(partial) time, so it will take a while.
But maybe in the next version. :)

ps. i din't understand much of your talk about streaming.. it's not necessary here. But the site look nice ;)

Seems when I loaded it this time I didnt get the same script error. I love the idea as well as the "rate this" at the bottom. Good job!

i saw your site and wonder how you do rating component (with starts)

Your site is like Oekakis which are famous online drawing boards in Japan, also in France now! It's a challenge to do so in Laszlo but why not? For your comics strip editor, you can get inspired from Shipainter Pro which is the best (Java).
