After having read some postings in here I found out hosting .lzx isn't a standard thing.
I'm currently hosted at a low budget php/mysql hosting company in virtual server mode.
I'm almost sure they can't host laszlo but I was wondering: are there any hosting companies yet with laszlo running virtual servers (=shared server hosting)?

Not yet. Although colocation and leased box hosting is becoming extremely cheap these days, so maintaining your own server is becoming more and more of a realistic option.
What kind of project is this for?

Antun, thanks for your response. Keep us informed about any new hosting-opportunities. Is it possible to create virtual server hosting with Laszlo presentation server?
In the meanwhile I found out you have several built-in possibilities within Laszlo presentation server to make your code 'open standard'. There's a HTML compile option, a likewise Java option and I've seen the "Krank" option.
I'm curious whether all these options will be enough to develop a full compliant application available for people running Flash and Java on the client side. The software I'm busy with is database-driven.
With fluffy regards,

You mean like a virtual private server (VPS), where it looks like you have root access? Yes, I have had success with that in the past, although I found that the VPS software was important - it worked using Ensim's VPS software (http://www.ensim.com/products/privateservers/index.html).
However I did run into some out-of-memory errors, so I guess it depends on how generous the hosting company is.
This is not to say that Laszlo supports VPS installations; these are just my personal experiences.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here - can you elaborate?

Antun, elaboration:
About my curiosity. I found out you can somehow 'recode' applications to HTML and more difficult stuff to Java. The web content with bad performance can be Kranked. I suggest all these options are available to host your application without running the Laszlo application server.
In my experience such 'workarounds' always have side-effects. Such side-effects always show up when you've finished coding making the 'development experience' less nice.
The side-effects of Kranking have been neatly described in your documentation, so while coding you can pro-actively prevent Krank mistakes.
Is it possible to recode a full-featured Laszlo application like the code-example 'dashboard' without having to run the application server at the server side?
Thx, Talisman

I think I understand what you're asking - can you run Laszlo apps without the LPS? The answer here is no, since the server is required for data and media connectivity, and the apps very much depend on it.

One of the purposes of my Laszlo work is to determine the feasibility of running this tool in a hosted environment.
I have great ISP relationships to provide clustered and geo redundant hosting. I believe there is a big opportunity for hosting - but the costs have to be assessed.
How many hits can a small cluster w/ Laszlo take? That's the big question for me.
I think the added functionality and features of Laszlo and/or Flex hosting are going to cost quite a bit more than standard shared hosting.
In our model, we will offer full J2EE backends with full technical support for our clients.
