I am working on that project now, and am anticipating there should be a preliminary version in a couple of weeks in the nightly builds.

The approach we are taking is to modify the server to use JSON as the data interchange format to talk to the Laszlo client, instead of compiled swf byte code.

We should talk about your ideas for a JSON data RPC API. Although eval() is not implemented in Flash 7 and Flash 8, there is a JSON parser that Oliver Steele wrote
so that it is possible to use JSON data in Flash apps.

I have seen some JSON RPC libraries published, are there any that you think would be good to support?

There have been some proposals about a standard way to convert from JSON into an XML dataset, which might be worth looking at for compatibility with the data binding APIs.
