Hi
Is it possible to achieve the following:
1. Enable synchronous audio/video conference with more than 2 participants
2. Allow audio and video to be recorded by the user to be played back later by any user

I think you're referring to the Flash 6 player's ability to access a webcam. At present the LPS is designed to run on Flash 5+, so it doesn't make use of features exclusive to later versions of the player.

Thanks for the reply.
I was just wandering whether there are any components from Laszlo that one could use or build to create such functionality. And as an extension to your answer, is there any plans of supporting flash player 6.0?
Basically would your native code support such functionality so that it could adapt to whichever third-party plug-in is used?

I'm not sure about specifically supporting webcam functionality, but features that take advantage of runtime capabilities specific to Flash 6 are definitely going to be delivered in a future release.

Any idea as to when this new release is planned for?

There is no specific date set yet, though someone here at Laszlo with more seniority than me might feel that it's appropriate to give out a (very) rough estimate and post it here.

i am also interested in both video and audio conferencing capabilities in laszlo ...
are there , btw , any ways to access the microphone with the current release , if the video is not yet an option ?

In Flash MX (6) you can use the object model of the FlashCom server of Macromedia, would be great if audio/video would be supported with these objects in Laszlo, is this possible in release 3.0? It's working with the Flash 6 player I saw in the release notes.

These capabilities are not supported in LPS 3.0 -- although LPS 3.0 does compile into Flash Player 6 bytecode, it does so in support of the existing LZX API, and is primarily intended to improve perfomance. The A/V capabilties fall outside of the LZX API.
We are exploring the possibility of creaing an API bridge so that developers could incorporate native Flash code inside a Laszlo application; but this would definitely be post-3.0. That could provide be a way to use FlashCom features within a Laszlo app.

Good that is has your attention. I think integration of audio and video with a Macromedia backend (FlashCom), would give Laszlo a lot more possibilities, not only for traditional applications but also for e-learning or other interesting audio/video applications. Broadband is getting more and more normal today (even with mobile solutions), so broadband audio/video will be easier to deliver. Just my thoughts so far.
Macromedia is working on FlashCom with Flex enterprise applications, just look at this article on Macromedia Devnet:

This would be amazing!
Are there any efforts in this direction yet?
