British Pound Symbol

Hi All,

I am trying to display the British Pound symbol and its pretty important that I get this working but all I get is nothing! Its either blank when using vera.ttf or if I change it to Verdana it becomes a little square. I have added <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> to the begining of my app and also ensured that my editor saves as UTF-8, is there anything else I could try. Any help much appreciated.
