here's a thought - create a sticky post at the top of this forum with the information on how to post apps.

Hi Antun, I used the wrong filename last time (minislideshow_screen.jpg). Here it is again, with the correct name: lz_screenshot.jpg

Can you update it with this?

thx,

lyndon

Ah, I think these forums don't support stickies. Eventually the plan is to allow developers to upload their own apps - via an upload form or something. (And manage their directory online using a Laszlo app!)

I had a minor brainstorm about using this widget. Imagine if you could tie this into the Amber Alert system and make it into a blog widget - you could have a cool widget and a public service at the same time.

Surely somewhere there's a feed with the kids' names and pictures.

Hi 'whisperstorm', FYI I placed some calls with Amber Alert authorities today and got some information on how the state and federal systems work. I am currently trying to connect with appropriate individuals at the California Highway Patrol (administers the Amber Alert system for California), and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). I'll let you know what I find. NCMEC has a web site www.missingkids.com that provides photo thumbnails. I am trying to connect with people at their Virginia headquarters.

Thx for the suggestion. It galvanized a number of people here to explore this.

That's awesome ! If there's anything I can do to help please let me know.

Perhaps there's a way to fetch the information from the site or maybe even cache the info somehow.

I was talking to my wife about this tonight - she said that she knows of lots of women who own sites who'd definitely use something like this.

Heh I know this is silly to say this but reading your response gave me goosebumps.. imagine if this could find even one kid....

Sarah Allen just found this:
<http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=683>

It's a missing kids slideshow using a Java applet. I have posted a msg to the Webmaster, inquiring about his or her interest in using an alternative solution targeting the Flash run-time. I referenced this forum thread in that post.

Since they deploy from a servlet container, I hope they find Laszlo compelling. I'll keep you posted on what I hear in response.

Thanks for offering to help!
