States and components/data

I have a view with several states. When I toggle between the several states, I notice that the data stored in the controls is not remembered (input text, tree expansion, etc).

Is it expected that I take care of saving/restoring such data using the onremove and onapply ?? Or is there a simple way for a state to persist the data associated with the controls inside of it ?
