Changing table content or text after page load from Database?

Hello, I am trying to create a page that can change the content of a table (text) based on the values in a database? Is this possible without modifying or installing any client side software?

For example if an item is listed on a site for sale and somebody buys it. Can that page which is loaded on another client change informing other users the item has been sold without a page reload. (Like a level II stock trading screen).
