View Full Version : Wish - free server space to try out stuff... even just a little bit

I wish there was a way that we could put small laszlo files on some common server that we could use for testing or sharing files. Even if there was just a small amount of space -- I cannot post just sourcecode and hope that everyone will install it on their own instances of the server. It would really help foster growth of laszlo widgets I think.
So to be more specific, if there was a place I could ftp some .lzx files and maybe images (?) too

We have been looking into this for some time - it's certainly on the roadmap, but there's a bunch of issues we have to resolve - mostly security and administrative things.
At first it would most likely be manual and informal process - people would send us zipped files and we'd review and post.
Would it be a big problem if we said no Java code on our server (although you'd be able to hit your own web services hosted on your own site).

that would be fine with me. I'm thinking just .lzx files and maybe some gifs/pngs

One idea that came up was to implement a CVS source control system that would allow developers to check code in and out of the web application (so they could manually update files, work collaboratively on projects and so on). The files would run from their location, so it would be almost like having FTP access.
The other is to have either an email address or a forum where a developer sends zip files of their app to, that we unpack.
There's advantages and disadvantages to both - and its possible to run both concurrently. The former would take a little longer to set up.
Are people familiar with using CVS?

Would our developers be happy to post a zip file to a designated forum that we review and post ourselves?

We've acted on this, and have just opened up mylzx.com (http://www.mylzx.com/)!
For the time being, we're asking developers to zip up their Laszlo apps and post them to the mylzx.com forum (http://www.laszlosystems.com/developers/community/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=13). We'll post them up on mylzx.com for you.
Bring on those apps!
