I would like to try integrating LPS into ColdFusion MX rather than Tomcat. This should theoretically work, since MX runs on top of JRun, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to configure things. Has anyone else tried it? Has anyone succeeded?

You wouldn't be integrating it into Coldfusion - you would be installing the LPS in JRun.
First you'd download the LPS DR Core (that's basically the LPS without Tomcat):

Check out the installation instructions for DR Core:

We have installed the LPS on JRun 4 before, although I seem to recall having to replace some of JRuns .jar files (I think it was xerces.jar) with the one that ships with the LPS.
Are you familiar with installing J2EE web applications? If so, by all means give it a go, and be sure to ask if you get stuck. However it you just want to get started with coding LZX, then it might be quicker to do the one-click installer (i.e. LPS-DR with Tomcat).

That's right....I keep thinking about them as the same thing, when of course they aren't.
I've got the Tomcat install up and running just fine. I will continue to use that for the time being. I just want to try LPS integrated into my usual development environment, and I'd like to try integrating live data with ColdFusion on the back end. I'm not familiar installing J2EE web apps, so I may be looking for help later.
thanks,
David

From the Macromedia Web Forums:
"Is the version of JRun that comes with Cold Fusion MX Server a fully fledged legit J2EE compliant container? Can I therefore run jsp/servlet/ejb's on it whilst ignoring Cold Fusion entirely? Are there any downsides to doing this?"
"No, it isn't. You can run JSP and servlets, but not EJB etc etc as there is no interface with which to deploy them. The JRun in CFMX is a cut-down version.
If you want full-blown J2EE with ColdFusion, get CF for J2EE and use a J2EE environment like the full version of JRun4, Sun One, Weblogic or Websphere (or if you don't mind losing MM support, Tomcat etc etc)."
We have CFMX Server, not CFMX for J2EE so.....

Oh well. There's both Tomcat and Jetty which are both open-source J2EE servlet containers...

I would like to highlight that this is only for standard CF. Get enterprise (or the developer edition) and you get the installing CF on top of a fully fledged JRUN4.
