laszlo's working area in browser

how does one expand or contract the working area which a laszlo app inhabits in the browser?

i'm sitting here going through the tutorials and on ie6 and a laszlo app seems to be limited to 80% vertical, 70% horizontal of the browser's client window

The area that the Laszlo app takes up is defined by the <canvas>. To make it bigger, you set the canvas dimensions, e.g.

<canvas width="800" height="800">

... would make a canvas 800px wide by 800px high.
