View Full Version : Finding versions of Flash

I'm testing an application and have discovered that it works on one machine but not on another.

It runs fine on my linux development machine under Mozilla 1.0 with Flash 5. It fails to run on a windows machine running IE 6 and Mozilla 1.3, both with Flash 6.

Rather than get into what I think is breaking I would like to first narrow down the failure mode. I would like to try Flash 5 on my windows box and see if it runs there.

I have found a Flash uninstaller on Macromedia's site but I can't find an installer for older windows versions of Flash. Do you know where I can get a Flash 5 install?

(BTW, I'm not just upgrading my development machine to v6 because it's the only working system I've got at the moment and I don't want to lose that!)

Thanks.

Here you go Andy:

It would be great to know what the problem turned out to be.

Antun,

Sure enough, on my Windows PC under Flash 5 it works like a champ. (This is with Mozilla 1.3, I haven't gotten IE 6 to recognize Flash 5 yet. Perhaps I need to do something manually with the OCX. Or perhaps it can't work -- maybe Flash 5 never worked with IE 6?)

In any case, under one environment (Windows with Mozilla 1.3), the code works under Flash 5 and does not under Flash 6. So it should be easy for you to recreate the condition.

What I want to do is create a minimal app that generates the problem and send that to you.

BTW, are you going to be at the training day on Thursday?

That would be great!

I will be at the training day on Thursday. Are you going too?
