Cannot open the downloaded gz file using winzip

I've downloaded the gz file but cannot open the file using winzip. It seems the gz file is corrupted.

I downloaded lps-2.2-core.tar.gz today
and this expands to lps-2.2-core.tar, then unzips to lps-2.2-core folder for installation.

I use Winzip 8.1 on Win XP Pro.

Size of lps-2.2-core.tar.gz is
104 MB (109,496,710 bytes).

Size of expanded lps-2.2-core.tar is
153 MB (161,157,120 bytes).

I ran into a similar problem. I downloaded the "lps-2.2-core.tar.gz" file. When I looked at the file sizes listed above, it occurred to me that the file that I downloaded might not be a gzip file, but was actually the .tar file instead. I removed the .gz extension, ran WinZip on it, and it worked.
